I’m the daughter of a 6th generation Bourke grazier, being bought up on a 40,000 acre self reproducing sheep station meant that there was always some action happening; be it ridding motor bikes, driving the Mini Moke (small car), helping in the sheep yards or very importantly helping mum in the kitchen and taking out the smoko (morning tea) to the workers.
I’ve been blessed with amazing parents who gave up a great deal of material things to give me the best education they could at Kincoppal-Rose Bay, a private Catholic girls school in Sydney. I went off to boarding school at age 12, I thought I was very grown up and in hindsight I wasn’t at all. I’m still learning and growing as a person each day!
I’ve learned my love of the land and animals from Dad and important qualities such as generosity, tradition and loyalty. My Mum is the most caring, kind compassionate person you would ever meet, a registered nurse by profession her duty of care stretches beyond paid work to a deep concern for the chronic disease and health of the Bourke Aboriginal community. She is strong, independent and has bought us up with the mantra, “No one is better than you and you’re no better than anyone else”, this has put me in good stead dealing with some private school people over the years! Mum is also a “foodie” and taught me cooking skills from an early age, I remember rubbing butter through flour to make pastry with tiny fingers.
My life now is focused on my own little family of Damo and my step daughter Lainie. We have bought an amazing old home in Wongarbon NSW, which will be a work in progress over coming years. It is so peaceful and a little slice of heaven. My career also is changing with the aim of helping businesses with their marketing communications, www.misspippr.com.au is my other blog. My aspirations are to make my career my passions: communications, connecting people and building relationships. I also share the view that life should have some form of freedom and creativity and not be about ticking boxes.
This blog is just about my life and the things that interest me. I have so many interests and loves; and life is never boring. I love food, wine, art, conversation and sharing these passions with family and friends. I hope you enjoy my perspectives on life. I believe story telling and listening is so important in our life’s journey and blogging is a fabulous outlet.
Lots of love
